I am Angela Quah, a girl from Johor who is turning 21 this year. I am currently a Year 3 BSc (Hons) in Psychology student. My hobbies are dancing, singing, playing the piano, acting, and doing TikTok videos during this pandemic period (haha). I know various kinds of dance genres such as Ballet, Contemporary, Cultural Dances, Kpop, Street Jazz, & Choreography as I started dancing when I was five years old. I am a part-time ballet teacher at a well-known ballet academy in Taipan, Subang area as well. I am also a senior Cheerleader in my university team. Despite my hectic curricular schedule, I have done well in my academics as well - for now, I got a CGPA of 3.72. It was tiring and hard for me to handle all of my academic work and extracurricular activities such as cheerleading and dancing practices, showcases, as well as competitions. Still, as a perfectionist, I always set a high target for myself to hit and achieve; hence I didn’t find it stressful but enjoyed this hectic lifestyle. For example, I would still ask myself to study even though I was tired after coming back from my cheerleading, ballet or dance practices. The passion for learning and experiencing new things give me a reason to keep learning and striving to be a better me; therefore, I really enjoyed it. I would say that I miss this kind of life so much as I found it so meaningful, but unfortunately, life is not as good as it used to be due to this unexpected pandemic. :(
I got to know about the Sin Chew Daily scholarship from newspapers. This scholarship has changed my life in the sense that I do not have to worry much about my tuition fees and give full focus on my study. It also allowed me to have extra time to engage myself in all these activities as if I didn’t receive this scholarship; I might have to work many part-time jobs to reduce my family burden hence no time for all the activities that I like and are passionate about. My best moments in Sunway have always included my friends that I met in Sunway. For example, I met my cheerleading friends, or should I now say family whom I experienced all the ups and downs with during practices and competitions - we did stunts, took place in competitions, hung out together, became parts of each other’s lives, and shared the same precious and once-in-a-life-time experiences. Other memorable memories in Sunway included the fun moments in Sunway Dance Club Annual Showcase as well as the free visits to Sunway Lagoon.
I love Sunway as it is the most happening campus, and it provides various opportunities for students to experience and learn extra things from a typical class. It also has professional lecturers who are always willing to provide guidance. For example, Prof. Alvin Ng Lai Oon has become a guiding light of mine. Despite his hectic schedule, he has always been lending his helping hand to those who needed help. This made him a role model that I respect and look up to. “Work hard, play hard” is always the ultimate advice from me for everyone, including my juniors. It is believed that all the experiences I had in Sunway and the moral values that instilled in me during this three years’ time will, in turn, enhance my personal growth and shape my personality in a good way. I LOVE Sunway, and I hope to state this once again in the last sentence of my paragraph: SUNWAY I LOVE YOU <3 and this is #MySunwayStory.
