Hi! My name is David and I am a fresh graduate of the Class of February 2021. An average boy from a single parent background is how I would best describe myself. My dad passed away due to a heart attack when I was young. Due to financial difficulties, I was sent to a home where I grew up together with other children who shared the same background as me. My childhood may not seem perfect at that point, but I was glad to find joy and happiness in my everyday life as there was a saying “Happiness is a personal choice and it comes from within.” In fact, those hardships that I have been through motivated me to be more determined and strive for excellence especially in my studies in hopes to return my favor and pay it forward. However, tertiary education had never been an option for me during my high school until one day when I came across the available scholarships offered by Sunway University through my Youth Pastor. There was a blend of excitement and nervousness when I first heard about the scholarship as I was looking forward to this scholarship with great hope.
My journey with Sunway University began on the day when I received my SPM results. After the interview process, it was unbelievable that I was given the opportunity to pursue the programmes of my choice at Sunway University as I had only received average grades. Ever since I was a child, never in a thousand years would I have imagined receiving a full scholarship in one of the most reputable institutions such as Sunway University. With full support from Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, I started my Diploma in Business Administration in 2015 and later, attained the same scholarship to pursue BSC (Hon) in International Business in 2018. The scholarship that Sunway offered me changed and impacted my life entirely as it made a drastic difference in my career path. Sunway has always supported the students by organizing various career talks and events to provide career guidance to the students. The lecturers were also kind, resourceful and have been a great support to us as they often use different coaching method modes during the lesson and are always readily available when we have any questions. Fast forward to 4 years later, everything passed in the blink of an eye and here I am, a graduate from Sunway University. I really feel blessed to have a few chapters of my life at Sunway University as I enjoyed those cherishable moments with my supportive peers and all the wonderful and helpful lecturers on campus. Not to mention, I have always been impressed with the top-notch facilities and the comfortable environment provided for us on campus. Apart from that, the library is also the best and great place to chill. I feel really proud to be part of Sunway as I certainly enjoyed my best experience of such a warm and happening campus. In short, I would say Sunway really brought everything together for the students ranging from sports to the well-equipped lecture theatres.
Therefore, I am forever grateful to Sunway University and Jeffrey Cheah Foundation for awarding me this full-Scholarship which crafted my pathway into pursuing my tertiary education. This scholarship has not just given me hope but also changed my life and gave me a great start in achieving my ambition. This is #MySunwayStory and I hope to motivate my fellow juniors to do your very best in your studies and have many unforgettable memories in Sunway University. Keep in mind that behind every painful story there is a successful ending. So, accept the pain and achieve the gain!
