“Growing up in a single parent background, money was tight and a major concern. Therefore, I am grateful for the blessings in the form of caring school teachers, family and also Sunway College for making #MySunwayStory, the one that I can look back with pride and gratitude.
Coming from a small town, the thought of studying at Sunway College and the city alone was daunting. However, with the support and encouragement from my family, friends and the counselling team, I was able to graduate from Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and subsequently Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) three years later, while actively involved in the Tamil Language Society.
I am currently working as a Supervisor in EY. My job scope includes leading audit engagements, executing audit and coaching junior staff. Although the learning curve is steep, the experience I gained along the way is worth the struggle.
I would like to thank the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Community Scholarship and Sunway College for changing the course of my life and helping me achieve my dream of becoming an accountant. My advice for youngsters out there is, “Be Independent, Be Responsible and Take Charge of your Actions”. We cannot rewind the clock. So, make sure you optimise every opportunity and value life every day.”
