My, oh my, how time flies! I still remember the very first day I stepped foot onto Sunway campus. As I was led up the stairs by a friendly senior, we passed a student sleeping on a bench. Before I could say anything, I was told “yeah don’t mind him, it’s not the norm I promise!”. I remember being wowed by the facilities and campus – Sunway nails that ambience that other universities just lack. Sure, some might be bigger or have a pool, but Sunway just felt like home from the very start. Right after getting my SPM results, I enrolled into Sunway with no delay. I chose the Foundation in Science and Technology (FIST) programme because not only was it affordable, but the subjects also offered piqued my interest as they would provide a solid foundational grasp that proved useful later in my degree.
We learned important skills in life such as making strong arguments to convince people, delivering captivating presentations, and having good moral values. Critical thinking was one of the exceptional subjects that taught me how to think on my feet and handle any situation life throws at me, these are only some of the many things you miss out on other courses. The most important thing is that we all had a blast going through the semesters. Time flies when you are having so much fun. Because the course is not fully exam oriented, the various coursework assignments were really enjoyable. In our coursework, we built bridges out of toothpicks, role-played as safety officers at Sunway Lagoon, judged contestants from all around the world in a programming competition, created our own apps, and so much more. Upon completing my pre-university studies, I was granted a full tuition waver to continue my studies in Sunway. I decided to pursue Computer Science as I’ve always been interested in computers and technology.
Transitioning to online learning was a slight hiccup as it was new territory to many of us. I’m happy to report that we made it just fine, thanks to accommodating and adaptive lecturers and modern e-learning platforms. In my final, 3rd year, I started a novel club from the ground up after getting inspired by a sudden 2 a.m. idea to fulfil a gap no other clubs have addressed. Sunway Big Talk is a conversation-centric club that aspires to connect people on a deeper emotional and intellectual level. At launch, we grew from 0 to 60 members after just two days.
Thanks to Sunway’s Career Services, I’ve secured a full-time position as a Mobile Engineer. I have no idea what life has to offer me next, all I know is that I’m ready and excited. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Sunway for allowing us to have the privilege of experiencing such an amazing education. #MySunwayStory
