“I come from a moderate-income family of four. Growing up, we constantly struggled with financial matters. I was always taught to be independent from a young age and I worked in various organisations to help my family. In spite of our struggles, seeing my keen interest in computer graphics and multimedia, my father bought me a computer. I learnt about video editing, website creation, and experimented with different types of software on my own.
These hobbies of mine then kick-started #MySunwayStory when I was granted a place to study Diploma in Information Technology at Sunway University. I could see how my childhood past-times could be converted into a life-long career via the well-structured course in Sunway.
The Jeffery Cheah Foundation Community Scholarship has helped me realise my dreams. In the future, I aspire to share my knowledge with other IT-enthusiasts and establish myself in the field of database management. This opportunity exposed me, a shy and reserved person, to a wide community of students to aide in my learning and social skills.
A team of passionate and dedicated lecturers are also a major plus to my learning experience. To all new scholars, make good use of this opportunity you have received and do not waste it!”
