Music has always been a part of my life since the age of 3

Coming from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, music has always been a part of my life since the age of 3. Since I was young, I tried out several art forms to discover my hobbies but music has always been my ultimate choice. It gives me hope and love when I play it and also interests me among many other art forms. Of course, music, just like everything else, requires consistent practice and commitment which got me to where I am today. I was first introduced to music by my late mother to play the violin and the piano, for she loved both these instruments and wasn't fortunate enough to play them. With that, I now have the opportunity to achieve not only her dream but as well as mine as it was already an early confirmed decision to choose music as my future career. Since my family loved music, they have been very supportive throughout my music journey, and it was a smooth sail. Because of the said commitment needed in music, sometimes it was hard to think how committed you have to be in pursuing music. However, the feeling of excitement present after each performance has made me continue further in my music journey. Having started music from a young age, it had been part of a balance with my studies. In high school, there were no music-related activities, so all music-related activities were outside of school. With that, I made the decision to participate in several orchestras in my high school. This further cultivated my passion for music to be my future career as I really enjoyed the feeling while performing.

Growing up, my sister and I have been really fortunate to have very supportive parents that have always supported us in what we wanted to do. For me, my parents supported me in my music journey and allowed me to proceed with my education choice smoothly. At first, I considered studying overseas but due to some family matters and also our financial situation, I gave up the idea and decided to continue with my studies in Sunway. The scholarship that Sunway offered me enabled me to move one step closer to my career which was either teaching music or being a performer. I first found out about this music scholarship when I decided to apply to Sunway. The financial burden was quite heavy upon my family so getting this scholarship has really lifted the burden of my family’s financial situation and also allowed me to be one step closer to my dream career. With this scholarship, I have had the opportunity to be able to perform with my sister and friends for the graduation ceremony in Sunway earlier this year. This performance also served as one of my first performances after a long time due to the pandemic and also reminded me of how much I enjoyed performing.

Pursuing my degree in music in Sunway has proved to be a good call as Sunway has been really accommodating to me. The exceptional facilities such as the practice rooms allow me to practice in-between classes easily and comfortably, as well as the friendly lecturers and wonderful courses that assist me in learning new things in my major. Music may be a road that is less traveled for most people, but music brings joy and happiness to all who listens and plays it, so don’t give up if you are pursuing music. It is a wonderful thing to pursue and brings joy to everyone.
