I was raised and born in Ampang, Selangor and the second son of my family. I do not remember much of my childhood but my parents described me as a very curious and loving child. Since young, I have always asked dozens of questions to them and I loved to always stick by my parents side.
Throughout my studies, one of the obstacles that I faced most often is financial problems. Both of my parents worked day and night to provide basic necessities for the family. Thanks to their efforts, our family is able to get by with all the basic necessities provided. I have always been interested in expanding my knowledge through tuition, buying more books and attending workshops or seminars but was never able to pursue them as I did not want to burden my parents even more with the costs.
As I was inspired by my parents’ spirit of not giving up when raising me, I figured out other alternatives to gain more knowledge on my own – I used to save up my lunch money to buy new books, and also opt to get study materials online which is free.
During my studies in secondary school, I joined the Closing The Gap (CTG) programme where it empowers students from underprivileged communities like myself to achieve career aspirations and also develop soft skills. It was through this programme that I got to know about the Sunway – Teach For Malaysia (TFM) scholarship and was encouraged. The interview was very insightful and I was recommended for the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Community Scholarship and that’s where #MySunwayStory journey as a Sunway Scholar began.
Receiving this scholarship has opened up the pathway for me to pursue my education in the field I am most passionate in which is Information Technology. I am also very happy and thankful to be able to reduce my parents’ burden for my education.
As a Sunway student, one of my best moments here is the time I spent with people in Sunway, especially the friends I made here. Apart from that, the facilities and resources here are the best I have ever experienced. To end this story, I would like to remind myself and juniors out there to work hard and do not give up in achieving the goals you have set out in life.
